Imposter/Contained unites movement, textural installation, and immersive video installation with live original score to embody how hierarchical power structures impact mood, choice, and dynamic within individual character and community. Movement sequences reveal exaggerated shaping, acceleration and deceleration of time, and gestural mannerisms unique to each performer. Installation elements enclose, contain, and guide movers and audience members through a divided space. Animated movement characters are revealed as the viewer experiences a world of dynamic mood shifts, layered sounds, and vibrant video projections.
The evening features solo, duet, and trio dance vignettes exploring repetitious chaos, relative size, sharp angular line, and dynamism of the body and the face. Alongside a trio ensemble, a solo dancer performs within a contained installation that audience members may visit, as they like. Jazz influenced original score, composed by Chris Fisher-Lochhead, embraces simplicity and avoids refinement. The space is divided into two environments: organic and dark, versus constructed and stark. Audience members are allowed to choose proximity, comfort, and duration of engagement.
