ROOMS
ROOMS at Gunder offers audiences an experimental dance performance incorporating movement, film, audio, personal object, and fabric. Built from a process grounded in care and comfort, ROOMS features improvised and choreographed sequences that prioritize being spontaneous and present. Each performance immerses audiences in a sensorial landscape of our childhood memories, familial histories, and domestic spaces.
ROOMS at Gunder is crafted for small groups, providing an intimate and unique experience for guests. Performances run approximately 1 hour with 30 minutes of open time before and after each show for guests to browse our installation pieces.
ROOMS brings together samplings from dropshift’s Sense Series: DWELL/burrow (2022), bloom (2023), and objects (2023).

Certain parts of this evening’’s audio installation contains strong language and sensitive content. Please take care while listening.
DWELL/burrow
Explores themes of visibility and uses sensed memories to inspire clear intention, clear dancer task and an exaggerated use of time.
bloom
Each mover works with a vibrant and whimsical fabric that drapes, collides, and has an organic quality – one that is inevitable and spontaneously beautiful. Moments experienced with the fabrics are wild and sometimes unpredictable. At times, movers use the fabrics in tandem to enliven a body and suspend at moments to create organic sculptures that consume one body at a time.
objects
Structured as an improvisational form, objects connects the dancers to the task of arranging. The work often begins with figures composing their objects, the space and finally their bodies in relationship to one another, fabrics, and objects. Surprising and unassuming, this vignette creates a meditative environment that transitions to a magical place where performers share story, anecdote, and sometimes song.
This project is made possible by an ARCS program partnership with Berger Park Cultural Center and the Chicago Park District. It is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, STAIR residency with Chicago Moving Company at Hamlin Park, Chicago (2022-23), and many generous contributions from individual donors.
