FloatBrilliance
FloatBrilliance explores honest physicality, how we embody fulfillment, and sense being whole. The overall work looks at the spectrum of physical states that exists in response to fulfilling a role, existence within a synergetic partnership, and physicalizing honest movement. Movers combine in duet, trio, and quartet sequences to explore timelessness, a soft sternum and heart, and quirky gestural conversations between bodies. Physical partnerships are built from playful shifts of time and weight and explore the sensations of tossing, diving, and catching to physicalize gravity’s stabilizing/mobilizing effects on the body. The work is performed with a dynamic tapestry of folk-inspired acoustic instrumentals, lo-fi electronica, and environmental sounds that place the artwork within its own germination. The performance space is immersive and intimate- audience members are guided to view from a variety of optimal vantage points throughout the evening.
The multimedia, projection-mapped landscape functions as a set, audience environment, and sculptural video installation. The materials— fabric, shimmering interference, and organic objects such as rocks, petals and twigs— are activated from multiple angles by video projections and colored lights that respond to the mood, content, and aesthetics of the dance and music in time. The video content connects external and internal states of connectedness, nature, entropy, and destruction. A flowing river of fabric hangs overhead, leading to a shimmering screen. Islandesque, rocky surfaces on the ground function as seating and stage, screen and structure. The immersive environment feels at once intimate and expansive, organic and fantastical.
